Audrina Cardenas was born with her heart outside of her chest. About 8 out of every 1 million babies have this condition, which 90% of them don’t survive, but Audrina is now 3 years old and counting.
Immediately after birth, doctors were able to place Audrina’s heart back in her chest and sent her home with a pink shield to protect her heart from injury.
More surgeries would be required once she was strong enough. As of 2015, she is happy and healthy, and has no other known defects or health issues.
