I remember when being a Brony was a positive identity marker and not a badge of shame. Those were good times. *Sigh*

Sadly the worst possible part of the fandom adopted the word as their own and now it basically means ‘Dudes who want to have sex with cartoon ponies’ instead of being just guys who are My Little Pony fans…

Yup. And I saw it happen. I SAW the label shift meanings. I saw a fandom that had previously meant a LOT to me gradually go to shit as it lost the ability to self-regulate. It was horrific.

And if memory serves me correctly, it was a troll..

To be fair, I’m mostly just bitter because old stuff keeps getting dragged out with people pointing to it and going “see, this is why bromides are bad!”.
A good many of the trolls have moved on.

It’s been like three years, nobody cares about the sanctity of the term “brony” any more.

Ehhhh, I don’t think sanctity is the right word.
That’s long gone, the best we can do is own up to the fact actions in the past are in the past, and just do better (if the rate of stories on horse news is any indication, if day we’re doing okay these days)

I just take these things a bit personally I guess.
