The Beatles refused to play in front of segregated audiences and had it written as a stipulation in their contracts.
At a 1964 concert in Jacksonville, Florida, John Lennon said:
“We never play to segregated audiences and we aren’t going to start now. I’d sooner lose our appearance money.”
