AUSTRALIA, LEADING THE FUCKING WAY

I’m sorry, I can’t support this because it’s taking the parents stupidity out on the kids by depraving them of the money that’s coming in as well.

a party of those benefits has always been the vaccination of children. Problem was, there was no drawback for not actually doing it (and too many loopholes around it).

this closes the holes.

I still can’t agree with taking parental stupidity out on the kids.

its not stupidity thats being punished , but potentially killing people thats being punished

Via the parents stupidity, which is being taken on the kids that have no say in the matter with stuff like this.

And the people that are probably going to get shots even if they dont believe in them will decrease because its costing them money not to

Once again, by abusing the kids for their parents boner.

The only other option is to take away their kids

Or not be dicks and punish the kids for their parents.

How?

By not passing laws like this that do so.

How would you suggest legally encouraging parents to vaccinate their children to make sure that not only they live, but children who cannot get vaccines due to age or other physical condition also live?

Hell if I know, but it has to be a way that’s not taking it out on the kids or else you’re defeating entire purpose of protecting children.

To be quite honest, I can’t see any way of punishing adults for awful decisions that will not some how ultimately affect their children, since they have no autonomy of their own and must rely on their parents for financial, emotional, and familial support. I believe I remember a law (possibly in California, maybe) that requires vaccination for children and one of the punishments for not conceding with that law multiple times and leaving your children unvaccinated is Child Services removing the child from the parent’s custody for unfit parenting/neglect. It’s an alternative, but no less painful or hurtful to the child.

Which is maybe this should be one of these issues the legal system doesn’t handle and we need to encourage on a social level.

> implying this hasn’t been tried for many years.

The anti vax movement got so strong because they lie and use emotional arguments.
Once emotion gets involved, rationality goes out the window

Stop acting like there’s no solution for these people.
You don’t get to flaunt the rules, WHICH HAVE BEEN PART OF THE POLICY FOR YEARS, and get away with it forever.

Like I said, I don’t give a shit about the moronic parents. It’s the kid’s I worry about.

Any reasonable parent, upon learning they could lose the benefits, would then do something to rectify the situation.
All it’ll cost them is some time.

I should point out, those rules only cover the mandatory childhood vaccinations (MMR, pertutis, tetanus, etc) non mandatory, such as the flu vaccine aren’t required. And of course, medical exemptions are accepted.

?

Why is tentanus mandatory over there? Here in the US it’s pretty much a thing you only get if you actually get cut bad enough to need a booster. I don’t think it’s even listed on my vaccination card.

I may be wrong.
But I’m sure the first time at least is (i remember getting it as part of my cycle in school)

You guys are lucky, I was pumped full of everything but HEP-C (because the MMR shot almost killed me due to a bad reaction and everyone involved pretty much said “screw it, we’re not risking the last one” by that point)

The list has grown since I was in school (I’m in my 30s now..)

And I have 0 sympathy.
These people put others at risk and gloat about rorting the system.
If they want the money, they can get a medical exemption or vaccinate their kids (which is free because of Medicare btw)
It’s that simple.

Other measures don’t work. People respond quickly when they stand to lose money, even if it is a tiny bit (family benefit A is something like 1.5k/yr

It’s not the parents I give a shit about, it’s the kids.

And who receives the money?
Not the kids. Their parents.

Most of the people who aren’t vaccinating their kids aren’t poor. They’re middle class.

They can deal with the loss, and if they want it back, the solution is not hard. They just have to follow the rules that have always been there.

Which likely helps raise the kids and pay the bills for the building housing them.

Once again.
Childhood vaccination is FREE. For all Australians.
There is no excuse not to either have it done, or get a medical exemption.
