1 cup is 220 grams. For whatever reason, they use cups as a unit of measurement.

Only for certain things. You can’t universally switch volume for weight because sugar has a different density than flour.

I never thought about that, that your side of the pond would have only metric markings. But I have to ask. What are these called:

A measuring quarterlitre?

Still a cup.
A cup in metric is 250ml.
