On November 4, 1965, in commemoration for the 6 million pounds of ordnance dropped over Vietnam, men of the US Navy’s Strike Fighter Squadron 25 (VFA-25) prepared a special “bomb” for the occasion: A broken-down toilet.

The bomb, perched under an A-1 Skyraider piloted by CDR Clarence ‘Bill’ Stoddard, was dropped on a mission to the Mekong Delta in South Vietnam, where, as he read the list of ordnance he was preparing to launch to the forward air controller, he called the toilet “one code-named Operation Sani-flush”.

Said FAC controller later reported that the toilet almost struck the Skyraider as it was released.

And so, the legend of the first and only time a biological weapon was deployed over the skies of Vietnam, was born!
